In this jazz lesson we’re gonna talk a little about mutes. In jazz, trumpet players use a variety of mutes, in some ways to approximate the human voice. The types of mutes I will be discussing include: straight, cup, buzz-wah, harmon, bucket, derby, plunger and practice mute.

    Hi Charlie,
Great video for a novice like me. I would like to ask you what is the best practice or warm up mute to play at anytime? because i can’t find the Charlie Spivak warm up mute.
    Thanks for your advice
    Best regards
    Charles
