Classroom Jazz – Registered Schools

Willie Thomas | November 4, 2011

Welcome to the members only section of classroom jazz pilot project. If youʼre here, youʼve been selected as one of our pilot project schools. Iʼm excited about this new program, and I hope you are too. To help you organize and use the Jazz Everyone materials in your classroom, Iʼve prepared a Teacher Worksheet for each Start Up Band and Intermediate Band lesson.

One of the main objectives I want to help you achieve is, that your students will have fun playing jazz, and will be motivated from working creatively in the classroom to do MORE work outside of the classroom with the lesssons and supplementary materials ONLINE! This is a major GOAL!

Choose your Level
A Start Up Band is usually a Middle School or first year High School band with little or no previous jazz experience. The Start Up Teacher Worksheet is a step by step outline that shows directors how to intgrate the online Lessons in the classroom with the Beninner Lessons, the Rhythm Pack and the Full Band arrangements that give everyone something to play as they learn jazz fundamentals.

Intermediate and Advanced band teachers should review the Curriclum Overview and Learning Tracks. I suggest that bands at both level bands use the same worksheets. Advanced bands will probably make faster progress, but, need to start at ground zero with the FREE Lesson. The Teacher Worsheets will guide teachers and students through the FREE lesson, the Basic Jazz Language 6-Pack, the Diminished 3-pack and the Half Diminished 2-Pack. Full Band arrangements with rhythm parts, 167 Etudes, Immersion zone Blues Riffs in all keys will keep everyone in the classroom playing while they develop jazz style, technique and improvisation. The Teacher Worksheets will indicate when and what you need to download as you progress throuhg the lessons. You may want to recomment that students copy and complie workbooks of these materials for use in the classroom.

To get started, please select which band category you fall into. Regardless of your band level, if you have less experienced students, you might want to consider quickly working through the Startup Band section.
