Skype Spotlight with Willie – The Free Lesson
jkisor | February 20, 2011
This jazz lesson with Willie Thomas and Justin Kisor is based off of Jazz Everyone's Free Lesson.
This is the first session in the Skype Spotlight with Uncle Willie. Here I go back to the beginning with Jazz Everyone’s Free Lesson. We go over Willie’s system of using the pentatonic pairs and going around the circle. This is the basis of his jazz language system and it’s a great starting point from which to grow and build. We’ll start just playing the roots and 5. By only playing 2 notes, you can actually play some pretty good stuff. Its not the notes that you play, its how you play them. Then we start moving these 5 to 1 pentatonic pairs around the circle. After playing the blues using these concepts, I then move through some of Willie’s rhythm drills applying the pentatonic pairs. Then we play some fours 3,000 miles apart! See you next time.

This was great Willie! Justin is fantastic and inspiring. Thank you, and I’m off to the shed.
