In this jazz trumpet lesson I’m going to show you some special effects you’ll need to know to play jazz trumpet. Some of these effects include: shake, gliss, squeeze, rip, goit, fall, dip, turn, scoop, to name a few. I’ll demonstrate each of these, describing how to play them. I’ll also discuss the history of some as well as where in the music you might be asked to perform them.
In this jazz lesson we’re gonna talk a little about mutes. In jazz, trumpet players use a variety of mutes, in some ways to approximate the human voice. The types of mutes I will be discussing include: straight, cup, buzz-wah, harmon, bucket, derby, plunger and practice mute.
